Govt wonapost increase ABC Learning funding Gillard Australian Broadcasting Corp

The Federal Government has ruled out topping up its rescue package for ABC Learning saying the money already given to the struggling child care provider is sufficient. The Commonwealth Bank has confirmed it has lent more money to the administrators of the childcare provider to allow it to continue to operate its centres. ABC Learning is in receivership with heavy debts and parents are concerned many centres will close despite the Government giving the company s receiver million to keep the childcare centres open until the end of December. Education Minister Julia Gillard says that amount is sufficient. There s not a need for any more Government money she said. Before we struck the arrangement with the receiver we obviously worked with the receiver to ascertain the likely amount of money necessary to keep open the centres that the receiver believed were unprofitable until the st of December. Meanwhile the Government says it is up to parents to decide if they want to withdraw ! their children from ABC Learning centres. The receiver is urging parents to re enrol their children for next year but Ms Gillard says she will not make the same plea. The Government s role isn t to make those decision for parents. They re decisions parents make she said. Our role is to support parents when they make those decisions. What we ve done with this funding arrangement for example is to ensure that parents have choices. With the pittance they pay childcare workers and the government rebates for childcare costs how can they NOT make money Reply Agree Alert moderator monday Nov pm Its not unreasonable that the Govt steps to help in the immediate term. S.Africa rand, stocks boosted

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa’s rand and stocks clawed back some of the week’s heavy losses on Friday, bolstered by firmer U.S. stocks that gained on hopes a bank rescue plan will be approved and another banking tie-up.

The rand had firmed 0.9 percent to 8.4420 against the dollar at 1535 GMT, also boosted by a recovery in the gold price, after slipping to a 5-1/2 year low of 8.5745 earlier in the day.

Analysts said a higher start on Wall Street, which rose despite a report showing that that economy shed the most jobs in more than 5 years may have tamed some of the risk aversion that has weighed on emerging markets this week.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 2 percent in early trade as investors hoped U.S. lawmakers will approve a $700 billion package to rescue troubled banks, and after Wells Fargo agreed to buy embattled bank Wachovia Corp.

“It looks very much like it (the rand) is taking its cue from what is happening in the U.S. equity markets,” George Glynos, managing director of market analysts ETM, said.

“This week the rand has correlated quite well with Wall Street.”

The rand has lost almost 5 percent of its value against a rallying dollar this week, but has strengthened slightly against the euro.

The dollar continued its run against the European currency to a 13-month high, partly on expectations Euro interest rates will fall, although it later pared gains.

“POSITIVE NOTE”

Gold bounced off a two-week low, which together with the higher U.S. stocks helped lift Johannesburg’s blue-chip index off a two-year low.

The Top-40 index gained 0.59 percent to 20,523.64 points and the All-Share index was up 0.52 percent at 22,678.25 points.

Pineapple Express Movie Review Seth Rogen James Franco

Pineapple Express Movie Review Seth Rogen James Franco Pineapple Express Movie Review Seth Rogen James Franco If you re new here you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed . Thanks for visiting Pineapple Express is the story of process server and pothead Dale Denton Seth Rogen who happens to be a local Vancouver boy . After Dale witnesses a murder committed by a cop Rosie Perez and a drug supplier Gary Cole Dale and his pot dealer named Saul Silver James Franco are sent on a wild ride that develops into a meaningful if not crazy friendship. What happens after the murder is a series of silliness and bad judgment Dale and Saul never stop smoking . Just a few things that happen Dale s girlfriend s family goes into hiding they nearly kill Saul s own dealer and they steal a cop car and fight of all kinds of thugs and martial artists. I love slapstick. I love stupid movies as long as they make me laugh but this one didn t quite measure up. Many of the scenes were terribly long and d! rawn out particularly the one at Dale s girlfriend s high school.PAINFUL . There were funny moments and I did enjoy Franco s portrayal of the stoner pot dealer very authentic. In addition Danny R. McBride who played Saul s Dealer Red stole the show.
